The department of Signboard and Signages of the Abuja Municipal Area Council, yesterday descended on the public business owners at Jabi, Tuesday, seizing different shapes and sizes of signboard and signage.
Speaking to newsmen in Jabi, the businessmen and women explained that 15 officials of the unit carried out the operation, adding that that was no; “ prior notices served on us before the sudden invasion by AMAC officials carting away critical Signboards displaying our services and or wares offered by the different businesses.”
Eden Garden was worst hit as the enforcement unit seized signages worth tens of thousands of Naira as well physical attacks on the staff of the Garden.
Also speaking, a business owner who does not want his name in print, said “ Signboard and signage is not regulated by any known bylaws governing the operations of AMAC. Security men at the Wuse zone 7 No. 22 Kigoma Street officer of the department said that the office has been dormant for many months. Further checks also revealed that outrageous sums of money demanded are not paid into AMAC or any known Government owned Account. The officials do not also issue any receipts as prefer to “meet” business owners in person for payments by members of the public.”
