The Kaduna State government has declared three days of mourning for the late Emir of Zazzau, Alhaji Shehu Idris.
The royal father who joined his ancestors on Sunday at the age of 84 years was buried the same day according to Islamic rites.
According to a statement signed by the special adviser to Governor Nasir el-Rufai on media and communication, Muyiwa Adekeye, public offices will open as normal on September 21 and 22, 2020.
The statement noted: “There will be a public holiday on 23 September to honour his memory. Flags will fly at half-mast during the mourning period”.
The Emir passed on in the early hours of Sunday at 44 Army Reference Hospital, Kaduna after a brief illness.
He spent 45 years on the throne having ascended the throne in 1975.
The late Emir was buried on Sunday evening in Zaria with thousands of mourners attending the burial and special prayers.
The Kaduna State government, in a condolence message, said the late Emir offered distinguished service to the state for over six decades in various roles, culminating in his ascension to the throne in 1975.
