The House of Representatives member representing Kano Municipal Federal Constituency, Hon. Engr. Sagir Ibrahim Koki, has resigned from the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), citing persistent leadership crises rocking the party.

In a letter dated November 11, 2025, and addressed to the chairperson of Zaitawa Ward, Koki said the deepening internal conflict within the party’s national leadership had made it impossible for him to continue representing his constituents effectively.

Koki, who was elected under the NNPP platform during the 2023 general elections invoked his constitutional right to association, saying “By virtue of the right conferred upon me by Section 40 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999 as amended), Article 7.1 of the NNPP Constitution and other relevant laws, I hereby resign my membership of the NNPP effective Tuesday, November 11, 2025.”

He thanked the party for the opportunity to serve and appreciated members for their support and trust throughout his tenure.

He, however, did not reveal his next political destination.

Koki’s exit is the latest in a series of defections that have hit the NNPP in recent months, raising concerns about the party’s unity and its ability to retain key political figures ahead of the next general elections.
