The Kebbi State government in collaboration with the federal government and international donor agencies have planned to conduct mass vaccination against yellow fever disease in 847 posts designated for the campaign in 13 local government areas of Kebbi State.
The state health educator and promotion officer, Yusuf Umar told newsmen in Birnin Kebbi yesterday shortly after stakeholders meeting ahead of the campaign.
He explained that the mass yellow fever vaccination campaign was scheduled to hold between 29th, November to 8th, December this year in 13 LGAs of Kebbi State.
The local government areas according to him are Argungu, Arewa, Aleiro, Augie, Dandi, Birnin Kebbi, Bunza, Gwandu, Jega, Kalgo, Danko Wasagu, Sakaba and Zuru.
According to him, the target group to be vaccinated ranges from 9 months to 44 years.
He urged people to take advantage of the campaign and come out massively to get vaccinated.
“The prevalence of yellow fever, a single case of yellow fever is an outbreak, looking at it, we noticed circulation of yellow fever virus in Kebbi State in 8 LGs we conducted reactive vaccination campaign, another cases started coming up in non implemented LGs,” he warned.
Umar added that in order to achieve success during the mass vaccination campaign, series of meetings, advocacy and awareness campaign have already started with key stakeholders including the media.
Yellow fever is an acute viral haemorrhagic disease transmitted by infected mosquito. The Kebbi State governor, Senator Abubakar Atiku Bagudu is expected to flag off the campaign on 29th November, 2018 in Birnin Kebbi while the emirs of Argungu and that of Zuru will follow suit in their respective emirates same date.
