Customers of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) who bypassed their meters will be sanctioned, the company has warned.
KEDCO has however renewed its efforts to speed up meter installation for more customers.
The company said the warning became necessary to guard against sabotaging the renewed efforts at speeding up the metering exercise.
In a statement signed by its head of corporate communications, Ibrahim Shawai, KEDCO said “anyone caught bypassing our meters would not be spared as we will go all out within the provisions of the law of the land to ensure that violators are made to pay a penalty after prosecution.”
Shawai said the firm was speeding up processes to install 87, 747 meters by the end of June under the zero phase, noting that vendors have been mandated “to increase manpower to ensure speedy deployment and installation of meters to customers”.
