…Tedx Conference Holds In Rivers
Renowned historian, Emeritus Prof Ebiegberi Joe Alagoa, has called on Niger Delta youths to stop engaging on kidnapping and other antisocial vices in order to stop creating bad image for the region.
Alagoa, who made the call at the weekend while speaking at the 2018 TEDx conference in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, charged youths in the region to study more about their history so as to find out their true identity.
TED is a non-profit organization devoted to ideas worth spreading, which started in California, United States of America about 25 years ago.
The renowned historian said: “I urge youths to go back to their history and culture to know their true identity. That alone can change their attitude and project the real identity of the people of the region.
“I can recall my upbringing at a tender age of nine when my grandmother took me to Nembe, the small Brave City State. My grandmother, an expert masseur and herbalist, taught me the culture of identity within the story. She told stories that were pure fiction, whose action took place in storyland and in the land of water spirits and the land of the dead”.
Earlier in his speech, Director of TEDx Port Harcourt, Mr. Donald Okudu, said the organization is aimed at bringing people together as well as sharing ideas and creating solution to problems.
Okudu said: “TEDx is aimed and bringing people together, sharing of ideas, creating solutions to problems and charting the new way forward as individuals, group and as a society especially at this point in our country democracy we must reframe from the old order and do this differently.”
“TEDx, which offers individuals or groups a way to organize independent, TED-like events around the world; and the TEDFellows program, helping world-changing innovators from around the globe to become part of the TED community and, with its help, amplify the impact of their remarkable projects and activities.
“We offer a community and platform for sharing unique life changing ideas to inspire people to act and build a better community, and by extension, world.
“Our mission is to create an enabling environment for young people to be exposed to mind broadening ideas and opportunities and to ensure development at a personal and communal level.”
