The Lagos State House of Assembly has passed the Lagos State Neighbourhood Corps (LSNC) Amendment Bill to accommodate Amotekun as a unit under the Corps after third reading by Clerk of the House Mr. Azeez Sani.
The bill was passed yesterday in Lagos after a voice vote that was conducted by Speaker of the House Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa
Part of the amendment of the LNSC stipulates that Amotekun will a unit under Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps even as the Commander of Amotekum will answerable to the General Manager of the Corps.
The amendment also stipulates that personnel of the corps should be able to speak the local dialect such that it will be easy to gather intelligence.
According to the amendment non indigenes resident in the state for over 20 years and can speak Yoruba Language are eligible for recruitment into Amotekun.
It was also resolved that the Commander of Amotekun need not be ex- military or ex -police officer but someone with cognate experience in security matters.
In a separate development the House moved a motion that the former and present Commissioner for Tourism, Arts and Culture Mrs. Olufunke Adegbolu, and Hon.Uzamal Akinbile Yusuf as well as other key officials to be respectively invited to give account of how fund released for the 2019 Greater Lagos fiesta was expended.
