The Kogi State Security Adviser, retired Commander Jery Omodara, has called on people of state, particularly the political class, to join hands with the government to defeat insecurity, warning against using the current insecurity as a political tool that will not benefit the people.

Omodara made the call on Tuesday at a one-day workshop organised by the Office of the State Security Adviser in collaboration with the Kogi Women Empowerment Coalition (KWEC).

The Security Adviser noted as disheartening that some individuals were already scheming to divide the people of Kogi State, planting seeds of discord, forming unholy alliances and dropping names of some politicians.

“Our people can no longer be taken for granted. The current political settings in Kogi State have direction, which will be followed when the time comes. East, West and Central are now better informed than ever.

“I wish to call on my people of Kogi West, particularly the Okun nation, that we are better under the current arrangements and we are sure we will soon get to our destination with strong alliance and partnership with other Districts. I advise them to collaborate with the state government to move the State forward.

“I must categorically warn those who are trying to use insecurity to destabilise us as a people, to desist henceforth. I advise them to collaborate with the state government to move the State forward. We elected you to represent us and not destabilise us,” he warned.

He added that gangsterism, selfishness and uncouth confrontation from elected officials were being taken note of, cautioning that the government will act in due course.

On the empowerment programme, Omodara said, “We know that women are the heart of every home, and the strength of every society. When women are informed, empowered, and organised, communities thrive. But when women are neglected or silenced, insecurity finds space to grow.

“This is why my office is partnering with the Kogi Women Empowerment Coalition (KWEC) to create safe spaces for discussion, learning, and collaboration. Together, we want to build communities where women can lead change not just from the side-lines, but from the frontlines,” he said.

He therefore commended the first lady of Kogi State, Hajia Sefinat Usman Ododo for her constant commitment to the welfare of women and young people in Kogi State.

“I silently watch and admire your laudable programmes targeted at women and children. Your campaigns against gender-based violence, your fight against drug abuse, and your advocacy for gender equality have continued to inspire confidence and courage in the hearts of many,” Omodara stated.
