Bianca Nguseer Anchaver is a delightful person as well as an extremely talented musician. She is a student of Benue State University studying industrial chemistry. The Benue born musician, in this interview with ANTHONY ADA ABRAHAM narrates her journey into the music scene.
At what point did you decide to go into music?
I have been singing ever since I have known myself. I decided to make music a career at the age of eleven in the year 2007.
How would you describe the music industry in Nigeria?
The Nigerian music industry is amazing and based on what I have seen, I can say we are one of the best in the world. Honestly speaking, I am not saying this because I am a Nigerian or a part of the industry. It’s really amazing, ‘cause we barely have enough resources yet we produce good music. The industry is growing really fast.
Any regrets so far?
I have no regrets what so ever.
What was your parents’ reaction to this career of yours?
My dad, at the time he was alive, when I was eleven tears old was not happy when I told him “I don’t want to be a reverend sister any more, I want to be a singer.” My dad didn’t like the whole idea of me becoming an entertainer. He told me his fears and advised I focused on other things. My mum, being the mother of the house, had to back him up at some point in order to keep a united home. He never loved my choice of career. But few years later, as time went on, he saw how much I was willing to sacrifice and how passionate I was about it. So, he decided to let it be and he gave me his blessings. Though, he was only willing to support me on a condition that I attended school and graduate with a good result. He spent the last days of his life being scared of my future because of my choice of career.
What is new about your kind of songs?
I always try to promote my culture in my songs, and as much as I do that, I still try to embrace other cultures.
What will you say is your greatest challenge in the industry?
Being a female entertainer in a male dominated industry is a huge challenge and waking up every day, I get to hear beautiful new songs from different upcoming female artists. It makes me feel like “OMG I have to go back to the studio and work harder, I don’t want to be left behind”.
Ever been harassed sexually?
No. I have never had such an experience.
Do you feel satisfied?
I am never satisfied, I can never be satisfied. I am always hungry when it comes to music.
Do you believe in love at first sight?
I believe in love, but admiration at first sight and love comes later.
Who is your ideal man?
If I start, I’ll never end. Conclusion: complete man in all means.
Which Celebrity would you like to work with, locally and internationally?
I would love to work with Enrique Iglesias and Davido.
Who inspires you and why?
Oprah Winfrey inspires not only me, but many people around the world because she has passed through a lot in life and always stood strong, never gave up. She taught us women to stand for ourselves and made a TV program for them to go and talk about everything they’re passing through! She is one strong willed woman who has defied age and gender and has been super successful! #Respect
