A daring car thief reportedly sneaked into the Kano State Government House, making away with a Toyota Hilux van belonging to the Deputy Governor’s convoy in the early hours of Monday.
According to findings by DAILY NIGERIAN, the incident occurred around 5 a.m. when the suspect accessed the premises through Gate 4 and later exited through the main gate after driving off with the vehicle.
Sources within the Government House confirmed that CCTV footage captured the thief’s movements, showing how he calmly drove the Hilux out of the complex without being stopped.
A source quoted by the online newspaper, my said, “The vehicle was part of the deputy governor’s convoy,” adding that the security around the deputy governor’s office complex is usually active only during working hours or when the deputy governor is at work.
It was also gathered that the driver of the vehicle, identified as Shafiu Sharp-Sharp, was interrogated and briefly detained as part of ongoing investigations.
“Already, an investigation has been launched. The driver is being questioned, while the Chief Security Officer (CSO) is reviewing the CCTV footage,” the source added.
As of when this report was filed, the Kano State Government has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
