Former Senate President, Senator David Mark, has warned Nigerians against overheating the polity by their actions and utterances as that would not promote democracy, peace and unity of the nation.

Mark, in a goodwill message to Nigerians marking this year’s Eid-el-Kabir in Abuja yesterday, stated that the current political upheavals ahead of 2019 general elections are avoidable if all interested parties would play the game according to the rules.

Senator David Mark who took stock of the socio-economic and political challenges facing the nation canvassed for a common approach by all stakeholders in order to come out of the woods.

He frowned at the current unwarranted acrimonies in the polity, pointing out that “no development can take place in an atmosphere of insecurity and unwholesome vices.”

“I still believe that Nigerians can live in peace and carry out their legitimate businesses in any part of the country without fear of intimidation or molestation,” he added.

He craved for a peaceful coexistence between and among various religions, saying, “We must shun religious and ethnic differences and coexist harmoniously because there is more to gain staying together as a people”.

He urged the federal government to brace up to the challenges of insecurity in the land and restore confidence among Nigerians by proving that it is capable of protecting their lives and property.

Senator Mark expressed concern that terrorism and insurgency has done enough damage to the psyche of Nigerians and tasked the government to take necessary actions that would help in overcoming the challenges.

He was however optimistic that Nigeria would be greater if the Executive, Judiciary and Legislative arms of government collaborate to work for the good of all.

Senator Mark implored Muslim faithful to use this period of Sallah celebration to pray for the nation and her leaders just as he wished them a blissful celebration.
