The security personnel who were drafted to take care of the security at the Sani Abacha Stadium last Thursday in the charity match between Africa Legends and Kano Pillars FC had a field day enriching their pockets through ticket racketing.
The match which was organised to create awareness on the plight of the internally displaced persons across the country was sabotage by the security men at the gate as they collected tickets from the fans and resold same to others at a giveaway price.
They were also said to have frustrated the gatekeepers by collecting money from several fans to gain access into the stadium.
The stadium which was filled to capacity with an estimated gate taking of over N15 million expected as generated revenue could not be realised as only paltry N2.3million was declared by the stadium management.
In a meeting to review the situation after the game, the organisers were informed that the stadium management connived with some thugs to pull down two popular side gates to cover up the fraud perpetuated during the match while the security men had a field day collecting money from the fans to enter the stadium.
Usman Abba, the Sani Abacha stadium Assistant Manager, who was also the stadium and ticketing coordinator for the match, revealed that the security men did not help matters with the way they behaved on the match day.
He said he was shocked that they helped many fans into the stadium after collecting money from them.
Though he could not explain the case of the reprinted ticket, it was learnt that a personnel of the stadium, collected one of the tickets early hours of the morning for the purpose.
The Coordinator of the Match4IDPs and Chief Executive Officer of OZ Consulting firm, Abi Goodman, said it was quite unfortunate that efforts were made to raise funds for the internally displaced persons across the country, those who were saddle with taking care of the security in the stadium, decided to rob the victims of Boko Haram insurgency through their actions.
