Griot Fest is a food festival celebrating the Haitian culture through Food & Music. The event is held annually to promote the Haitian peoples and culture on a grand stage. The festival is also aimed at showcasing the best Haitian food stalls, restaurants ,and chefs.
As the largest sponsor of the “GRIOT FEST”, Skinner Louis says “the aim of the festival and showcase event is to promote Haitian/black-owned businesses, as well as introduce the greater communities to the richness of the Haitian culture.” “Creating awareness for the young kids that irrespective of your national origin, color or religion, you can own a business and be successful at whatever you choose to pursue in life, is very important to me”, says Skinner Louis.
He informed us that the festival is usually made up of two main Haitian-centric programs: the entertainment program and the food showcase program.
The entertainment program presents performances by both upcoming, supporting and headline musical, theatric and comedic Haitian artists. Even the former President of Haiti, Michel Martelly, has performed at the festival. The food showcase program focuses on different Haitian restaurants, food stalls and chefs, who are on hand to feed the people and crowd.
Skinner Louis said “that awards are given out to the best chefs/restaurants/food vendors at the end of the event to let them know that their efforts are appreciated and recognized as well as, encourage them to keep up a level of excellence in service.”
Skinner says he is proud of his heritage and remains forever committed to sponsoring the festival, as his way of giving back and supporting the Haitian community in Florida. He plans to support the “Griot Fest”, as he hopes the festival will continue to grow and hopefully spread to other states nationwide.
