Chief of Army Staff Lt. Gen. Faruk Yahaya has said the military has made progress in the production of weapons through strong partnership with Nigerian companies.
Gen Yahaya said such collaboration had led the development of hard wares such as “Ezugwu” and Conqueror MRAPS, the DSHK (Dashka) Anti- Aircraft gun as well as the Rocket Propelled Grenade-7.
The army chief spoke yesterday at the opening of the Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC’s) Research and Development Conference 2021 with the theme: “Enhancing Nigerian Army’s Joint Operational Effectiveness through Research and Development”, held at the auditorium of TRADOC headquarters in Minna, Niger State.
He said, “I am therefore glad to state that these engagements are already yielding required dividends.” For example, the collaboration between Defence Industries Corporation and Command Engineering Depot has led to the development of hard wares such as the “Ezugwu” and Conqueror MRAPS, the DSHK (Dashka) Anti- Aircraft gun as well as the Rocket Propelled Grenade-7” he added
Yahaya said these landmark achievements showed that the Nigerian Army is willing to partner with own local manufacturing industries towards the production of the items
The army chief said the initiative would not only make the country self-reliant but to save scarce foreign exchange that could be channeled to other sectors of the economy in line with the Federal Government’s Economic Recovery Growth Plan.
Represented by the TRADOC’s commander, Maj. Gen. Stephenson Olugbenga Olabanji, said in view of the need to improve research the training became a necessity.
