The Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Yusuf Tukur Buratai, has vowed that the army would ruthlessly deal with bandits and other forms of criminalities presently taking place in Katsina and other northwestern states.
Buratai, who made the declaration while interacting with the media on Saturday further commended the troops of the Army Super Camp 4 in Faskari, Katsina when he visited. The COAS also commended them for the successes recorded so far in quelling banditry and urged them not to relent until the criminals were routed out.
While noting that there were challenges affecting the smooth operation of the war against bandits, he, however, assured that these challenges were surmountable, as the troops had improvised solutions to them.
“On the assessment generally, it is quite encouraging and this is what is required. I also want to commend the people of the northwest, especially Zamfara and Katsina states where we are located for the Operation Sahel Sanity for the tremendous support and cooperation, they extended to us. This has led to the neutralisation of several hundreds of these bandits and arrest of 100 informants, logistic suppliers and cattle rustlers.
“Be rest assured, we will be ruthless against these criminals who are disturbing the peace and security of our country. We will not tolerate molesting, kidnapping, cattle rustling, raping of ladies and other forms of criminalities,” the COAS warned.
