The Minister, Federal Capital Territory Malam Musa Bello has commended Guards Brigade for ensuring peace in Abuja despite providing security to the President.
The Minister who was represented by Colonel Mohammed Maina Rtd said gave the commendation during the 2018 Guards Brigade West African Social Activities (WASA) held at Mambilla Barracks, Abuja.
“Guards Brigade has done very well within the year in ensuring that Federal Capital Territory remains peaceful despite their enormous responsibility of safe guiding Mr President, the first family and the conduct of ceremonial duties within Abuja and neighbouring states.
“Let me seize this opportunity to commend the officers and soldiers of Guards Brigade for the professional conduct exhibited during the just concluded Exercise Egwu Eke III otherwise called PYTHON DANCE and the General Election 2019,” he said
Speaking earlier, the Commander Guards Brigade Brigadier-General Umar Musa charged officers and soldiers of the Brigade to work hard to secure the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and its environs from criminals activities.
Gen Musa, noted that the brigade has lived up to its responsibility of providing security for the president, his immediate family, very important personalities, the FCT and its surrounding states.
He further assured residents of their safety and property as they go about their legitimate business as the Brigade remains committed to its duties.
Musa, congratulated the officers and soldiers for their commitment and dedication to duty in the outgone year,adding that WASA as a socio-cultural ceremony where troops display their rich cultural heritage with traditional dances and local foods from their various tribes plays an important role to the younger generations born outside their communities of service.
He noted that WASA, which dates back to the Second World War, as an age long military tradition is aimed at creating a conducive atmosphere for relaxation for officers and soldiers and their families to socialize with their civilian friends at the end of a training year.
“It is also an occasion where formations and units showcase their achievement.
He said the brigade has achieved the objective of the training year to improve professionalism and sustain regimentation.
