The Chief Executive Officer of KenMoore Fashion, Ogbonna Kelvin Chukwuma, has revealed how he ventured into the world of fashion way back before he became a household name in the Nigerian fashion business.
According to the boss of KenMoore Fashion, his journey into the fashion business did not take him to any school of fashion but, “I learnt trading and fashion from a respected and honorable man in the fashion industry for a very long period of years, and also I attended seminars and exhibitions in and out of Nigeria.”
KenMoore Fashion boss revealed that he did not go into fashion by accident, as he was particularly motivated right from when he was young. He said,“at a tender age, during my apprenticeship in the fashion industry, I developed a keen interest and passion for the subject matter and since then, that has been my anchor in the business.”
The inspiration for KenMoore Fashion, according to Ogbonna Chukwuma, came from his travelling across the world where he got the idea of setting up a brand
“I was inspired by the exhibitions and trade fair I attended in some European and Asian countries. I got to know, that there is nothing cast in concrete as regards being a big fashion brand, because not all the big fashion brands have factories. This motivated me to see the possibilities of having mine as a registered brand,” he said.
When he started out, he had the confidence that fashion designing would be a profitable venture that could put bread on his table.
“I have been into business for a very long time, marketed and sold various brands that are not mine, in the course, I found out that setting up my own brand won’t be a regrettable decision, eventually, with my hard work and passion for the business I can say so far no regrets,” he added.
It took no time for Chukwuma to build KenMoore Fashion into a brand that is gradually becoming one of the most sought-after designs in Nigeria, which is known for its unique staples. There are varieties of designs in KenMoore Faahion that are fast selling due to the fact that the brand maintains the quality over time.
Though there were few challenges, the founder of KenMoore Fashion said he was able to overcome these because he worked with the right people who knew how to deliver the job.
“Standing out as a brand is not a one-man job, so the initial challenge I faced was getting the right people to work with. However, I was later blessed with people of same goal and mindset which has skyrocketed the company.
“I could remember one of my worst moments when an upfront payment was made to a company in Turkey which was our production partner but couldn’t meet up with the production and due to COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, I couldn’t visit the country to lodge a complaint or know the state of the good production and the pressure was on us in Nigeria to deliver, but thank goodness, we were able to sort things out,” said the boss of KenMoore Fashion.
While advising upcoming entrepreneurs who are into fashion business, the CEO of KenMoore Fashion gives a tip on how to be a successful designer.
“Sometimes business does not require capital, what keeps a business striving and eventually successful is passion, understanding and patience,” he explained.
