The Managing Director and Chief Executive Office CEO JAY FM, Jos Mr Clinton Garuba has appealed to the Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation NBC to kindly reopen the radio station before the next round of elections to enable the station not only inform the electorate but to also moblise them to partake in the electoral process.
JAY FM was shut down by NBC on the 1st of March 2019 on allegation that the station’s continued broadcast may lead to break down of law and order in the state.
Garuba said, as ground breaking as this allegation appears to be, the commission gave one instance after two previous cases when the station was involved in any form of breach or in proper conduct that warrant a heavy sanction as a shut down.
According to him, the Jos zonal office of NBC only said it has been directed that the station should shut down operations adding that to all discerning minds, these suggests that the directive may have been handed down from above which it self is an anomaly.
The MD pointed out that ” the normal and usual process would have been the zonal office to monitor, sanction and report to the headquarters. But where the shut down of JAYFM Jos is concerned, there are sound reasons to doubt if that is the case. To us this is typical case of the voice of Jacob and the hands of Esau.”
