The federal government has disclosed that despite the myriad of socio-economic challenges, the Diamond Jubilee celebration under the leadership of President Muhammadu Buhari offers a new beginning for the nation, adding that it will present integrity awards to deserving Nigerians.
Addressing a press confer ence on the activities lined up for the Nigeria@60 celebration yesterday in Abuja, the minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed said that the current administration is putting the country on a new path of sustainable development.
Some of the activities include public lecture and special Jumaat prayers on 25 September, 2020 at Abuja National Mosque, inter-denominational Church Service on 27 September, 2020, launching of the National Ethics and Integrity Policy as well as Integrity Award by Mr. President to commemorate the 20th anniversary of ICPC, Presidential Broadcast on 1 Oc- tober, 2020; Guard Of Honour/ Anniversary Parade, historical exhibition, among others.
Alhaji Mohammed said, ‘’For Nigeria as a country, the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari offers a new beginning. The administration
is working assiduously to build a new Nigeria, laying the building blocks for industrial and technological development by building massive infrastructures in the areas of power, roads, bridges, rail etc. and by developing human capital.
The minister said the administration is also fighting corruption, tackling insecurity and diversifying the economy by leveraging ICT, creative industry, agriculture and mining, among others.
He stressed that amidst challenges the country should celebrate because of the theme of the celebration, ‘Together at 60’.
According to him, ‘’Now, some may wonder why Nigeria needs to celebrate its Diamond Jubilee at all, considering the myriad of socio-economic challenges facing the country. And our answer to that is contained in our theme of ‘Together’.”
