Dr Akinyemi Agbede, a Nigerian-American polymath, has declared his intention to run for governor of California in the 2026 election.
Dr Agbede holds a PhD in Mathematical Analysis from the University of Cambridge, reflecting a strong academic foundation.
His persistent pursuit of public office, with previous campaigns for California governor and U.S. Senate, has built a broad base of support and demonstrated his steadfast dedication to public service, as well as a deep understanding of California’s political dynamics.
In a statement signed by political strategist Dr Emmanuel Stephen, Agbede’s vision for the state was described as a potential turning point for California’s future.
His campaign highlights pressing concerns for Californians, emphasising comprehensive educational reform to close achievement gaps, economic strategies focused on innovation and job creation, and a firm commitment to social justice and equity.
The statement reads, “With a background spanning engineering, academia, and public service, he brings a multidisciplinary approach to leadership.
