The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has rescheduled operation of the return free train ride to run from Ibadan to Agbado instead of Iju due to work being carried out on the standard gauge railway line at Iju.
LEADERSHIP checks shows that, in line with the new schedule, passengers who besieged Iju railway station were yesterday advised to board the train from Agbado, a few kilometres from Iju.
When our correspondent visited Agbado railway station in Ogun state passengers were seen collecting endorsement tickets to embark on travel from Agbado to Ibadan after registration and proper identification by NRC officials based on first come first serve bases.
One of the NRC officials who spoke under anonymity said that the decision to stop at Agbado was a temporary measure adding that as soon as the ongoing work at the Iju and Agege is completed commuters will be allowed to enter the train from Agege.
According to him, the train departs Ibadan in the morning and arrives Agbado after two and half hours and returns to Ibadan in the evening.
He said that management’s decision to screen passengers was based on need to ensure that miscreants are not allowed to hijack the process.  Â
