Pace Sport Entertainment Marketing PSEM in partnership with the Nigeria University Games Association (NUGA) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding MoU to organize Football competition for the Nigeria university called HIigher Institutions Football League (HiFL)
Signing the MoU on Tuesday, the Director of the Initiative, Shola Fijabi said the HiFL is aimed at encouraging Nigerian youths and universities students who have passion for Football and to promote sport activities in the country.
“It is designed to engage and display exciting Nigeria students who have this talent of football. There are large numbers of this youth in our universities across the country, so we want to give the opportunity to show case their talents.
“The competition will be held in two conferences in the country, the Atlantic conference which covers the South area and Savanna conference which covers the North part of the country and 16 teams will participate in the game.”
He added that the winner will participate in the international university football competition, saying the modernist and fixture of the league will be release soon.
In his goodwill address, the NUGA President Stephen Hamafyetto said what they are doing is a paradigm shift to sport development in Nigeria university because it is a pathway to participation and competition in national and international sport competition.He said one of the force that can shape the future of sport in Nigeria universities ramains funding through sponsorship. Adding that if sport must gain its pride of place in Nigeria, it must be projected as a national ambition.
“We are ready in NUGA to inspire Nigerian students to be next generation of leaders through excellence in sport and academics. We want to lead, promote and celebrate execellence in sport and academic in Africa and to achieve this we have to secure participation of our students in national and international competitions.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary, National University Commission, Prof. Abubakar Rasheed said as a commission we are proud to associate with PSEM and NUGA on the project and he pledged to continuously support its noble course.
“As a regulatory it is our responsibility to ensure the provision of sporting facilities as well as supervise and encourage the organisation of sporting activities in Nigeria universities for the full utilisation of various sporting potentials in the institutions for national development,” he said.
