The National Consultative Front (NCFront) has called on the federal government to stop security agencies from harassing its leaders who comment on the state of affairs in the country.
The group made this call while reacting to a summon issued to one of its leaders, Dr Obadiah Mailafia, by the Department of State Security, requesting him to appear before its command in Jos, Plateau State, on Monday, September 14, 2020.
The invitation to Obadiah comes on the heels of a similar one by the Nigerian Police over his comments on the sponsors of insurgents which is currently being contested in court.
The group in a statement by its head of public affairs bureau, Dr. Tanko Yunusa, said the action of the security agencies amounts to denying their leaders their constitutional rights of freedom of expression and peaceful dissention, adding the incessant invitations and hours of punitive interrogation of Obadiah by the police and DSS is injurious to his peace and well being.
The statement read in part: “We have reviewed Dr Obadiah’s interviews, which was claimed to have prompted the curious invitation by security agencies and cannot find any serious threat or breach in it to warrant his being constantly harassed by the security agencies, especially the police and DSS.”
