On Christmas Day 2020, over 50 widows, orphans and less-privileged gathered at the Okolie’s residence in Awgu, Enugu State. They had gathered to receive gifts presented by Obi ‘Blinx’ Okolie.
They rejoiced and danced as they sang songs of praises and thanksgiving to God appreciating Obi as they received cash gifts of N5,000 each along with food items like tubers of yam, beans, bags of garri, rice, onions, cartons of noodles, cartons of tomatoes, tins of milk and articles of clothing.
They were also provided free medical services such as blood pressure checks, free medical and dental consultations, as well as free eye screening and corrective lens distribution. Free breast examinations to check for lesions and masses, cervical cancer screening/cryotherapy treatment, free blood glucose checks, free prostate cancer screening, and free medicines for common illness conditions were also added to the list of services received as part of the Xmas giveaway.
Blinx promised to work towards making the outreach occur annually on Christmas Day, Boxing Day 26th and 27th December.
“This is my own little way of helping these less privileged masses especially widows who have nobody to help them out,” Okolie said.
He told us that the outreach was organized to complement efforts of the local and state government in improving the lives of the helpless and less privileged in the society.
Speaking to our reporter, Blinx said watching them singing songs of thanksgiving and dancing with happiness gave him great satisfaction, especially with the tough economic situation brought on by the covid pandemic.
“I give because I know how it feels to lack not knowing where or when your next meal is coming from,” he said.
Obi Okolie better known by his stage name “BLINX” is a South African based Nigerian rapper, songwriter, producer and philanthropist.
