Former President Olusegun Obasanjo yesterday commended governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal over the construction of 1,500 seat capacity International Conference Centre saying that it is a tourist site in the state.
Obasanjo who assured that the centre would attract tourists from within and outside the country, added that most people will surely want to visit the state because of its rich historical heritage.
Speaking before commissioning the project, the former president described the centre as a befitting edifice whose attrAction will appease everybody.
Earlier, Governor Aminu Waziri Tambuwal said though the project was awarded by the immediate past government, he however funded it 100 per cent.
Tambuwal further stressed that the international Conference Centre will equally serve as a revenue-generating venture for the state.
The governor also disclosed that though the contract was awarded at the cost of N428 million, his administration however reviewed it to N705million before its completion.
While describing the features of the centre, the state commissioner for Religious Affairs, Alhaji Abdullahi Maigwandu said it has 740 meters access road and parking areas for VIPs and delegates, 250KVA generator, galleries, children play area, computerised cyber cafe, a well furnished administrative block among others.
