Some prominent politicians in Lagos have faulted comments of a former deputy national chairman of the PDP, Chief Bode George, who described APC national leader, Bola Tinubu, as unfit to be Nigeria’s president in an interview on Arise TV Morning Show on Wednesday.
He alleged that Tinubu “steals humongous amounts of money from the Lagos State government monthly.”
George was reacting to a former minister of works, Adeseye Ogunlewe’s remark that Tinubu was the best person to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023.
Reacting to Chief Bode George’s comments, a prominent Lagos politician, Chief Onikepo Oshodi, said, “This is rather a controversial topic for me to delve into, the two of them- Bode George and Bola Tinubu have contributed a lot to the development of Lagos State, the issue of stealing money from coffers of Lagos State government, I have no idea what that means, all I know is that Bode George is a very good man, and even he is not clamouring to be president.
“Tinubu is clamouring to be president, and he is a Yoruba man, I don’t think anything is wrong with his aspiration. We should not bring ourselves down, all we Yoruba people should not bring ourselves down.”
For Senator Anthony Adefuye , Chief Bode George’ s comment should not be taken seriously because he is seeking relevance in the present political equation.
He said, “I think that of all the aspirants that have shown interest in the presidential race so far, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu is the best, there is no doubt about that, if one should go by his performance when he was governor of Lagos State. You can see his achievements.
“Chief Bode George is not a man to be reckoned with, he has no clout, he only dabbles into issues so that he can be recognised.
“Senator Seye Ogunlewe is right, Tinubu is the right material for the presidential position, what Bode George said about Tinubu should be discarded, nobody should take him seriously, he is a nonentity.”
