Oxfam and its Implementing partner in Kebbi, Development Exchange Centre, has organized a two day workshop aimed at building the capacity of its Partners and CSOs in Kebbi on how communities can engage the government towards demanding for service delivery through community development planing.
The European Union Support to Food Security and Resilience in Northern Nigeria, PRO RESILIENCE ACTION (PROACT) Project Manager in Kebbi State, Olumide Ojo made this known while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after the program in Birnin Kebbi .
He said the essence was to develop local capacity for community development planning process so that CSOs working in Kebbi can facilitate process of development by engaging communities through a process call Community Development Planning.
“It is expected that CSOs will be able to go back after the training to their local communities they are working, bring together stakeholders in such communities and facilitate process of communities identifying their priority needs and how those priority needs will be met by government “”, he said.
The Oxfam chief in Kebbi further added that the process would change communities from being onlookers on developmental issues that concerns them to becoming key drivers on issues that affect their lives.
He further opined that the trained CSOs would be able to mobilise and push communities to demand for service delivery after identifying their priority needs through the community development planning process and it’s templates.
