Hundreds of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faithful in Osun State yesterday formally defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of Osun State who was joined by his wife and other leaders of the APC received them into the party.
Prominent among those who joined the governor to receive the defectors were Benedict Alabi, a former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Patricia Etteh; a former deputy governor, Senator Iyiola Omisore; Senate’s spokesperson, Senator Ajibola Bashiru, and the party chairman, Gboyega Famodun.
The politicians that defected were led by former special adviser on Strategy and Planning to former Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Funmilayo Olasheinde Mustapha.
Mustapha, who was a former House of Assembly member under the PDP and a former council chairman, led her supporters from the Ila Federal Constituency noted that she left PDP because of its protracted crisis.
She noted that a party that could not fix its challenges could certainly not fix that of the state, adding that Oyetola’s achievements in just three years despite the financial challenges were worthy of emulation.
