A pastor, John Onu of Glorious Gospel Fire Assembly Abakaliki and a yet to be identified young man have been killed in Ebonyi State following youth unrest that started Sunday night and lasted till Monday morning.
The new generation church pastor is said to have been hit by a bullet while praying in his residence at Hatchery, Nkaliki road, Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital when security agents stormed a hotel in the area that irate youths were destroying.
LEADERSHIP gathered that the irate youths of Ebyia Upnuhu, Abakaliki local government area of the state numbering over 50 had gone on rampage, burning houses in the area after a man in the community was beaten up and he died in the process.
The Abakaliki local government chairman, Mr Emmanuel Nwangele who confirmed the incident described it as unfortunate and regrettable.
The irate youths on receiving the news of the death of the man left the community and moved to Abakaliki, Monday morning where they destroyed a hotel belonging to one Chukwudi Onyibe.
LEADERSHIP gathered that Mr Onyibe is the special assistant to the chairman of the local government, Hon Emmanuel Nwangele on internally generated revenue.
Our correspondent reports that policemen and other security agencies were drafted to the scene of the incident who shot sporadically to disperse the youths and stop them from razing down the hotel.
It was gathered that a stray bullet hit Pastor John Onu who lives opposite the hotel while he was observing his morning devotion. The bullet reportedly hit him on his heart side and perforated his back.
The rampaging youths also attempted to attack Abakaliki local government headquarters, Nakaliki but were dispersed by the security agents.
