The People’s Democratic Party National Youth Movement has declared full support for the endorsement of former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), as the consensus candidate for the position of National Chairman of the PDP.

The group, in a statement by its National President, Hon. Comrade Salahudeen A. Lukman, on Thursday, said Turaki embodies experience, integrity, and inclusiveness — values needed to rebuild and reposition the party ahead of future elections.

Lukman reaffirmed the movement’s commitment to the unity, progress, and internal democracy of the PDP, noting that since its formation in 2020, the group has been at the forefront of youth mobilisation, grassroots sensitisation, and strategic engagements within the party.

He commended party leaders at all levels for their loyalty and resilience despite challenges, expressing confidence that the PDP would overcome its current internal hurdles and emerge stronger after the forthcoming Ibadan National Convention.

The movement, however, expressed concern over the reported interest of former Jigawa State governor, Alhaji Sule Lamido, in the chairmanship race, describing his move as “immoral and politically inconsistent.”

It alleged that Lamido’s attendance at the African Democratic Congress unveiling event in Abuja amounted to a withdrawal of allegiance from the PDP.

“We urge Alhaji Sule Lamido to publicly reaffirm his loyalty to the PDP within seven days if he still wishes to be recognised as a bona fide stakeholder,” the statement read.

“Failure to do so should prompt the National Executive Committee to take decisive disciplinary action, including expulsion, to uphold the sanctity and moral integrity of our great party.”

The PDP NYM said Turaki’s emergence would signal a new dawn for the party anchored on unity, discipline, and visionary leadership.
