President Muhammadu Buhari, yesterday, assured the Armed Forces and other security agencies of government support towards achieving peace and stability in the country.
The president, while declaring open the 2017 Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Annual Conference with the theme: “Re-appraising the Nigerian Army’s Operational Efficiency In Containing Contemporary National Security” in Ibadan, said government would continue to support security agencies to discharge their constitutional duties and roles effectively.
According to him, security agencies, including the country’s armed forces should come out with strategies that will ensure the stability of the country.
He reiterated his administration’s determination to ensure peace, security, fight corruption so that development would strive in the country.
Represented by the Chief of Defence Staff, General Abayomi Gabriel Olonisakin, Buhari charged leaders including armed forces to embrace the new wind of change for the good of the country.
“My administration is committed to peace, security, war against corruption and restore the economy activities for economic growth and development,” he said.
While noting that peace and security have remained an issue for concern he assured the armed forces that their efforts would not be forgotten.
He said that new strategies that would put an end to the security challenges in the country should be the focus of the conference.
He commended the armed forces for their efforts against terrorism, militancy and other crimes in different parts of the country within the ambit of the law, adding the future of the country is bright and promising.
In his welcome address, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen Tukur Yusuf Brutai reiterated the Nigerian Army’s determination in keeping to its constitution role in defending the country, ensure peace and stability.
While noting that the Nigerian Army would remain apolitical, the army chief said it would adopt professionalism in the discharge of its duties.
Burutai who commended Buhari for his support in the war against terrorism, disclosed that the force would continue to carry out various operations in different parts of the country to ensure peace and stability in the country.
In his goodwill message, Oyo State governor, Senator Abiola Ajimobi commended President Muhammadu Buhari in his efforts in Boko Haram insurgency, militancy and other crimes in parts of the country.
He noted that the Nigerian Army had been protecting the country and her assets, saying “federal government, Armed Forces, officers and men have ensured the security, peace and unity of the country.”
