Okra Solar, a leading renewable energy provider, has unveiled plans to collaborate with energy developers to deliver power to over 90 million Nigerians in rural communities through innovative renewable energy solutions.

The company announced the launch of Mesh-grid Beyond, a new suite of hardware designed to extend electricity access to communities located far from the national grid, recently.

The chief executive officer of Okra Solar, Afnan Hannan, said the new system is built around three core products—Sprout, Leaf, and OkraNet—which enable faster, more efficient electrification compared to traditional mini-grids. “Our mission has always been to unlock opportunities through energy access,” Hannan stated. “Mesh-grid Beyond gives Nigerian developers the tools to scale faster, drive productive use, and electrify communities that were previously out of reach.”

Similarly, the chief executive officer of First Electric, Daniel Komolafe, described Okra’s new products as transformative for rural electrification efforts. “People in Burum have loved having it in their homes, and in the next year we’re going to deploy faster, reach more communities, and maintain profitability,” he said.

According to Okra Solar, the innovation marks the first off-grid technology to demonstrate a clear pathway toward full grant independence while promoting inclusive and profitable energy access nationwide adding that the Mesh-grid Beyond model represents a shift from targeting only profitable customers to achieving universal access sustainably.

The company also said the approach could halve the grant requirement compared to conventional mini-grids, helping the Nigerian government expand electricity access more efficiently under its Mission 300 initiative, which targets power for all citizens by 2030.
