The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) in Ondo State has threatened to down tool if nothing is done to checkmate the unwholesome activities of kidnappers by relevant authorities in the state.
The threat is coming following the recent kidnap of some workers of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC) in Ondo State by some suspected Fulani on the dreaded Amurin/Owo road.
Speaking, Dr Bolarinwa Olawale, president of National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) in the state, frowned at the manner at which the situation is being handled, adding that the workers are now living in perpetual fear anytime they ply the Owo-Akoko routes to work.
While calling on the state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, to, as a
matter of urgency, beef up security apparatus as the chief security officer in the state, Olawale maintained that families of the kidnapped victims are also subjected to psychological, emotional and financial trauma as a result of the menace.
“In view of this, we are lending our voices to the cry of NBA in Ondo State that Governor Rotimi Akeredolu should please ensure the beefing up of security apparatus in the state.
“While appreciating the efforts of the security agencies in the state for their swift response, we wish to state unequivocally that we may not be able to guarantee industrial harmony if the government refuses to put in place visible and effective measures, which will help curb the activities of these kidnappers,” he said.
Recall that a pregnant medical doctor alongside two other members of staff of Owo FMC were recently kidnapped and later released after few days following the payment of ransoms.
