Senate Thursday condemned in strong terms the killing of 40 persons at Dogon-yero in Gandi district of Raba local government area of Sokoto state.
The lawmakers who described the killings as gruesome however, have commenced a serious probe into the murder and assured that security agencies must apprehend the culprits.
Specifically, Senate urged the federal government to mandate Air Force, and the police helicopter division to carry Ariel surveillance in affected states of Sokoto, Zamfara and Kebbi to identify locations and hideouts of the killers.
Because of this, Senate has urged the Inspector General of Police to quickly detail a special squad to mop up the affected communities and get rid of the armed bandits.
Also, it called for synergy between the DSS, the police and Armed Forces with the view of sharing intelligece and strategies towards arresting the culprits.
To ameliorate the suffering conditions of the displaced persons, Senate has asked NEMA to quickly send emergency relief materials to the affected communities.
Senate’s resolution followed a motion by Senators Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central) and Aliyu Wamako (Sokoto North).
According to them, the armed bandits are operating in a Zamfara forest where they have carried nefarious and barbaric killing of innocent people over a period of 2years.
The lawmakers further noted that the criminals move with motorcycles that carry up to three people numbering about thirty motorcycles in all, meaning that the armed bandits were up to 90.
They however, informed that the armed bandits sent 2 people to the village to buy food for them and the villagers observed that the emissaries were armed and they were interrogated by the villagers and found to be armed bandits similar to the ones operating in Zamfara.
