Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno state has urged traditional rulers to continue to foster unity and peaceful coexistence among their subjects.

Governor Shettima made the appeal yesterday while presenting First Class Staff of Office to the Emir of. Shani, Alhaji Nasiru Muhammadu Mailafiya at his palace in Shani local government area of southern Borno.

Shettima said: “On behalf of the government and People of Borno state, I congratulate you on your appointment and presentation of first class staff of office.

“The late Emir of. Shani, Alhaji Muhammadu Mailafiya has contributed to the development of education in the state, as teachers, administrator, as well as development of his domain and state in general. I therefore urge you to emulate your late father ” Shettima’ said.

“My administration accorded priority to the traditional institution as custodian of our value and culture. Mailafiya is the 8th emir and his appointment was based on merit”, Shettima said

Earlier in his speech,  the  State Commissioner for  Local Government and Emirate  Affairs,  Alhaji Adamu Alhaji Lawan said the administration  of Governor  Kashim Shettima has contributed  immensely to grassroot  development  and transformation through several provisions of grassroots facilities, construction  and reconstruction  of palaces of Emirs of Dikwa, Shani,  Biu, Bama,  Askira and Gwoza  among others

He called on the newly turbaned first emir to work for the people of his domain and ensure peaceful co-existence of his people and the State.

Speaking, the Emir  of Shani,  Alhaji Nasiru  Mailafiya  said “the journey  to the attainment  of present status of the first class emir  of Shani emirate  would  not have been achieved without the support and  understanding of the present government and purposeful  leadership  of governor Kashim’s administration.

He called for peaceful coexistence among the people of his domain, the state and the entire nation, while urging the politicians to play the politics  according to the rules of the game as  2019 general elections is at the corner.

The royal father expressed his appreciation to governor Shettima, emirs, distinguished guests and all those that witnessed the occasion and prayed for Journey mercy and safe trip back to their respective destinations.

He pledged to continue to carry his people along and rule them with all honesty and treat them equally.
