Budding showbiz entrepreneur and philanthropist, Kristen Dawodu has described social media as a blessing and a working tool that entertainers should not underestimate.
“Social media break the barriers of time, space and resources by helping creative producers to reach a large number of people in faraway places and thus build a large followership that helps a brand to thrive,” he said.
According to him, his use of Instagram, in particular, has “pushed me to the limit of my creativity and made me better at my art.”
Advising celebrities and artistes not to be lazy in their use of social media, Dawodu explained how he engages his followers: “Sometimes, I try as much as possible to reply a lot of direct messages (DM), sometimes, I go live to talk to my fans and get to know them better.”
Kristen Dawodu, whose real name is Oluwagbenga Oluwafemi Dawodu, first came into the limelight in 2015 when he began an online charity program on social media. In the past four years, he has won a number of awards and recognition, including the June 2019 recognition as one of the most influential media persons in Nigeria.
Speaking further, he avowed that he could not imagine a world without social media as he plans to unveil his Instagram blogging platform, Wahala network.
“First of all, the world will become a boring place to be in,” he stated. “Do you know how many people forget their sorrows with social media? How will families communicate with their loved ones if we suddenly don’t have social media anymore? I also want to tap into that and establish Wahala network; a blogging platform for my brand.”
The Ogun State-born entertainer who had his first degree in Business Administration from Tai Solarin University of Education has, since migrating to the United States of America in 2016, completed further studies while working part-time without dropping out of the entertainment scene.
Social media, he said, aside from serving as outlets for entertainment are also business tools that should be taken seriously by any showbiz person.
“Twitter, Instagram or Facebook, no business can attain sustainability without using them these days. Moreso, they have become indispensable marketing tools for the entertainment industry,” he stated.
