The residents of Wamakko local government in Sokoto State have called on Independent National Electoral Commission INEC to create additional continuous voters registration centres to carter for large number of people who walk long distances to get registered.
They made the appeal when this correspondent visited Government Day Secondary School, Arkila one of the registration centres at Wamakko local government. One of the candidates who spoke on the condition of anonymity stated that he had spent four days coming to the centre to get registered.
He added that the process was cumbersome as one has to write his name then wait till it reaches his turn before he could get registered. “At times before it will reach your turn it is already 3 o’clock and the registration officials will tell you they are closing for that day”,he lamented.
On his part, one of the registration officials who did not want his name to be mentioned said they were facing serious problems daily as some candidates are impatient as they cannot register the number of people that patronize them daily.
He equally explained that the centre had only one laptop which is grossly inadequate considering the number of people that come for registration daily.
The official called INEC to provide more laptops and also create more registration centres in the area to ameliorate the difficulties faced by the candidates.
