South South People’s Conference (SSOPEC) has commended President Muhammadu Buhari over the forensics audit of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).
The group in a communiqué made available to newsman by his Chairman, Prof Sotonye Amakiri, on Tuesday in Abuja.
He noted that the NDDC was establised based on the agitations of the riverine Niger Delta Oil host communities who demanded resource control from the federal Government.
The statement in part: “Nigeria have once again, be jolted by fresh relevations to the effect that the reckless and unbudgetted spending spree by the discredited NDDC IMC has continued unbated, barely six weeks after the senate’s indictment showing how the NDDC IMC blew 81.5billion in just a couple of months on friticious contracts, frivolities and in breach of extant financial and public procedurement laws.
“The resultant negotiations gave birth to the NDDC with the sole mandate of delivering empowernment and infrastructural development (Projects) to the oil producing areas who people are improvised, however, the Commission Officials failed to empower and develop the areas as mandated, but siphoned, diverted and embezzled money amounting to several hundereds of billions of Naira to enrich themselves, leaving the people in a state of endless poverty.
“The further pledged total agreement with Mr President on his thoughtfullness and appointment of the IMC to provide every details about the NDDC for the froensic auditors to show proof of where monies allocated to the NDDC in the last 20years are kept and advising enemies of the Niger Deltans to allow Sen.Godswill Akpabio the honourable Minister of Niger Delta do his job as assigned to him by the President,” he said.
