Sokoto State governor, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, yesterday, urged Nigerians to develop beyond consumer mentality.
Tambuwal, who noted that no nation of the world develops with total dependence on others, appealed for support to local manufacturing.
Speaking during the official handover of the renovated Sokoto State chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Tambuwal admonished media houses to encourage and enlighten Nigerians onself-sufficiency.
The governor further promised to support the media in all it’s dealings. Represented by the Secretary to the State Government, (SSG) Prof. Bashir Garba, the governor said even advanced countries of the world all started from the scratch.
The Sultan of Sokoto and president general, Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) Sa’ad Abubakar 111 represented by the Ubandoman Sabon Birni, Alhaji Mohammadu Maccido praised the government for deeming it fit to complete the renovation.
Sultan, who expressed worries over the poor standard of the job appealed to contractors to fear God.
While insisting that, as a member of the NUJ, he is not personally happy with the quality of work been done.
Earlier, the chairman of the occasion and former governor of sokoto state, Yahaya Abdulkarim wondered why journalists always derived pleasure in fighting other people’s cause without looking inward unto their own plight.
