A group operating under the aegis of Concerned Advocates for Good Governance in Nigeria has urged political parties in Nigeria, especially the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to serve as a virile opposition to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to engender political and national development.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, the National coordinator of the group , Barrister Olusegun Bamgbose lauded the Peoples Democratic Party for successful convention that produced Prince Uche Secondus as the national chairman.
He said the ability of the party to resolve its differences ahead of the 2019 general elections, saying this will put the party on a very sound stead to participate effectively in the polls.
Bamgbose averred that the PDP has not really been putting the ruling APC on their toes ahead of the election.
He opined that defection of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar back to Peoples Democratic Party ahead of the 2019 election is a blessing in disguise for democracy and a warning signal to the APC to start fulfilling their electoral promises to Nigerians.
“A one party state in the country is an enemy to democracy. It is crystal clear that since APC won the 2015 election in Nigeria all other parties that should have served as virile tool for checks and balances have gone to sleep.
“ it is to our consternation that the ruling All Progressives Congress has become notorious for giving excuses for inability to perform to the expectation of Nigerians. “
