The minister of youth and sports development, Mr Sunday Dare, has reassured the Nigeria’s senior women’s basketball team, D’Tigress and male counterparts, D’Tigers that the money for Tokyo Olympics allowances and bonuses are intact.
He described alleged diversion of the funds by the Ministry’s officials as fragrant and falsehood, saying a dime has not been moved out of the money.
He blamed the delay in the payment on the D’Tigers players who are yet to provide their account numbers.
“We were waiting for the account numbers of the male basketball players so that the money could be sent to them at once. These are foreign account numbers and CBN said it is better to treat all the accounts as a single transfer because of the process and documentation involved and the process has been on,” Minister said.
“Just last week we said let go ahead and pay the female basketball players and whenever the other account numbers come from the male basketball players it can be paid to them through the CBN.
So, the allegation out there is so fragrant and false that Ministry officials have shared money, where is the evidence?
“We got evidence to show that since the day that money entered the account up till today, not a dime has been moved out of the money. NBBF has a secretary general who keeps all the records and the money is with CBN.”
