The Federal Road Safety Commission, (FRSC) has deployed 25,000 officers across the country for effective management of the yuletide season.
This is even as the FRSC announced the promotion of 4660 staff.
Corps Public Education Officer, Mr Bisi Kazeem, who made this known in a statement in Abuja, said the effort was part of activities to commence its ‘Operation Zero Tolerance for Road Traffic Crashes’, which began Wednesday, 19 and would last till Jan 15, 2019.
According to Kazeem, “FRSC has defined an operational order; we have the operation zero tolerance to road traffic crashes to combat the menace of road traffic crashes around this period.
“We have made deployment of both regular and special marshals close to 25,000.
“We have also deployed patrol vehicles, advanced life support ambulances, heavy duty trucks, patrol motorbikes, reflective jackets, breathalysers among others.”
He explained that the measures were all in a bid to make sure that the roads were accident-free.
Kazeem further said that the corps’ objectives during the festive period included ensuring free flow of traffic, reduction of crashes to the barest minimum and quick response to distress.
Meanwhile, among the officers promoted, there are 73 deputy corps commanders, 51 assistant corps commanders, 70 chief route commanders, 150 superintendent route commanders, 607 route commanders and 359 deputy route commanders.
The 3,350 marshals included 29 chief inspectors, 33 deputy chief inspectors, 48 assistant chief inspectors, 201 principal marshal inspectors, 467 senior marshal inspectors and 525 marshal inspectors.
The 2,037 road marshal assistants who were also promoted comprised 257 chief road marshal assistants, 45 deputy road marshal assistants, 768 senior road marshal assistants, 889 road marshal assistants I, and 78 moad marshal assistants II.
Spokesperson for the FRSC, who confirmed the story, said the commission has the approval of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, to promote 1,310 officers and 3,350 others in its rank-and-file and the promotions are effective from November 27, 2018.
