The Emir of Tsafe, in Zamfara State, Alhaji Habibu Aliyu, is reportedly dead after a protracted illness.
A statement signed by the state commissioner for local government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Muttaka Rini.said the late emir died last Tuesday at the Usman Danfodiyo University Teaching Hospital (UDUTH).
The late Emir served as member of the old Sokoto State House of Assembly on the platform of the defunct National Party of Nigeria (NPN) from 1979 to 1983.
After the dissolution of the political parties, he was appointed as village head of Bilbis and later following the death of his father, he inherited the throne as district head of Tsafe, and with the creation of Zamfara State in 1996, his status was upgraded to the status of second class emir.
During the erstwhile administration of Ahmad Sani Yarima as the governor of the state, his status was again elevated to first class emir along with other emirs.
He died leaving behind, four wives, 25 children and 62 grandchildren and was buried the following day at a burial procession attended by many important personalities from within and outside the state.
