Concerned Global Citizens, an affiliate of the #BringBackOurGirls(BBOG) group, has pleaded for the rescue of the Chibok girls who have been abducted for over 884 days.
In a letter to President Muhammadu Buhari, the group noted that It had been two years and five months since the Chibok girls were abducted, adding that although 58 girls escaped on their own, 218 are still missing and in captivity.
The letter which was signed by their leader, Ruth Idahosa and presented to the Nigerian Embassy, reminded President Buhari of his electioneering promise to the the people of Nigeria where he said “We will not rest untill all the girls are rescued alive and reunited with their families.”
It also reminded the President of his May 29, 2015 inaugural speech when he took his oath of allegiance saying that “We cannot claim to have defeated Boko Haram without rescuing the Chibok girls and other innocent persons.”
The group stated that an announcement of technical defeat of the sect was not enough to deal with the pain, frustration and abandonment of families of the Chibok girls and thousand who remain in captivity.
It called on the federal government to act upon the proof of life video released by CNN, Amina Ali’s escape and the proof of life video released by Boko Haram and rescue the remaining girls.
The group maintained that the federal government has its military force, credible negotiators and a combination of the two as options for their rescue.
