As the world welcomes the new year, the FCT minister, Sen. Bala Mohammed, has called on all Nigerians to show more patriotism for their country thatn they did in the past year.
In his new year message yesterday, he urged Nigerians to demonstrate their love and patriotism for the country by shunning acts capable of breeding division among the people, making sacrifices and re-dedicating themselves to the building of a united Nigeria in which generations yet unborn would be happy and proud.
He said, “this new year is very special to the nation because it marks the 100th year of the amalgamation of the Northern and the Southern protectorates of Nigeria, which is a centenary celebration of the Nigerian nationhood.”
He enjoined Nigerians to also pray for their fatherland as well as its leadership, asking God to continue to guide, protect and give President Goodluck Jonathan the strength and the wisdom to continue to steer the affairs of state and implement the transformation agenda of his administration.
He expressed appreciation to God for sparing the lives of Nigerians to witness the new year, in spite of the daunting security challenges facing some parts of the nation.
The minister charged Nigerians, particularly residents of the FCT irrespective of their religious beliefs or political inclinations to continue to live in peace and harmony with one another.
He enjoined residents to remain steadfast, believe in the capability of Nigeria’s leadership and be their brothers’ keepers, in keeping faith with the custom and tradition of Africa.
