The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate in the September 10 2016 governorship elections, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has assured Edo people that the entire state as his constituency will receive one form of government presence rather than  his village or local government unlike the outgoing government of Mr Adams Oshiomhole.

Addressing  Traditional rulers in Edo South under the aegis of Enijie of Benin kingdom at Egbaen near Benin City, he said traditional rulers as critical stakeholders in the Edo Project have unfortunately been sidelined by the outgoing governor in the state

He said the meeting with the traditional authorities was designed to inform them of his plans for the state if elected into office as governor and the need for them to infirm their people of the need to come on Election Day and cast their votes.

Lamenting the gross neglect of majority of Edo south by the Governor Adams Oshiomhole led APC government Ize-Iyamu said in the last eight years Edo state received well over N1.4trillion as statutory allocations from the Federation account besides billions unaccounted for from Internally generated revenue.

He listed one of the key aspects of such neglect to include the Benin City storm water project which the governor claimed would rid Benin city of floods and took a N30billion loan from the capital market, but has turned round to make the city a swamp whenever it rains.

He said whereas the state government failed to carry out a mandatory Environment Impact Assessment of the project, with less than 30 per cent of the projected completed and flood water channeled to Ogba River, whenever it rains the river overflows its banks threatening the safety of Iyekogba residents in Oredo.

According to Ize-Iyamu, whereas it is three local government councils in Edo south namely Ovia northeast, Ikpoba-okha and Orhionmwon that put Edo on the map of oil producing states in the country, Oben and Ologbo, two key oil and gas producing communities do not have anything to show for their natural resources.

He also said whereas governments before Oshiomhole acquired various sizes of water pipes for the planned expansion of the Benin City Water Scheme, the governor soon after taking office sold the pipes without any trace of the funds in the state coffers.

The result is the undue dependence on water from boreholes by residents of the state capital with all its attendant toxicity which has proved a health hazard to both old and young, promising to visit the problem of potable water with a view to reversing the present challenge for citizens

He mentioned the deliberate decision of the governor to use state funds to build the newly established Edo University in his hometown, Iyamoh, along with a teaching hospital and school of nursing to the neglect of the stare university at Ekpoma, the state college of education, Ekiadolor, for which he appointed a Vice-Chancellor and a governing council without any financial allocation.

Ize-Iyamu assured the Monarchs that if he is lectern the governor he has all the experience required to make good on the office of governor added to the fact that he knows the state like the palm of his hands.

Responding to Ize-Iyamu’s consultation the Monarchs through HRH Edowonyi Ogiegbaen, the Enojie of Egbaen,  in Ovia Northeast local government area of Edo state prayed for the grace of God to be upon Ize-Iyamu not only to win in theSeptember 10 2016 governorship elections but to be forthright in delivering on his campaign promises.

They said this is so that he will have the capacity to translate the contents of his party manifesto contained in , ‘simple agenda’, into practical reality when he is elected governor in September.

The rulers had listened to the PDP candidate analyze governance in the state in the last seven and half years concluding that he had good plans for the state, before praying for him.

The Ojiegbaen who is also the President of the Enijie at the meeting promised that, “we will discuss what you have told us. We to our ancestors to help you and. Support you to achieve your aim to bring about the development of Edo state and Edo south in particular”.

“We are ready to support those who are willing and wholeheartedly have regard for human lives and respect for traditional institutions and are interested in doing more than what has been done by the government of the day”.

He added that, “we have heard what he said and we also have what he wrote. We prays that God grants him the grace to translate the contacts which is right now in theory to practical.”
