The Development Control department of the Federal Capital Territory Administration yesterday commenced the demolition of illegal structures in parts of the territory.
Areas affected by the demolition exercise so far include Salsa Spot, a joint very close to H-Medix supermarket, located at Ademola Adetokunbo crescent. Another affected property is a mall located near Banex plaza area in Wuse 2.
Property owners who spoke on the exercise said they were not properly notified by the department of development control before they rolled out their bulldozers to destroy their properties.
They also lamented the insensitivity of the department, accusing the FCTA of gross violation of their rights. One of the victims, whose house was pulled down at Wuse 2, told our reporter, “Let me inform you that they just came to my house this morning and started pulling down this structure. There was no notice given to any of us here. This is bad, especially now that many people are trying to manage, due to the hard times,” she said.
