No fewer than 17 residential buildings and a shop were submerged at Saraki Numan area of Lokoja, Kogi State capital, yesterday, due to heavy downpour.
The rain started after one o’clock pm, shortly after Eid-el-Kabir prayer and people were settling down to commence the day’s business and lasted till three o’clock.
Though houses did not collapse but fences round the houses caved in allowing the ferocious water to find its way into buildings.
Clothes, bags, some personal effects worth millions of naira were seen floating away almost effortlessly without challenge and any attempt to retrieve them.
It would be recalled that the deputy governor, Chief Simon Achuba warned those on river lanes to relocate.
