Senate Sets Up Ad Hoc C’ttee On Recession

The Senate yesterday set up an ad hoc committee to articulate various contributions by senators during the debate on the state of the economy and possible ways of the current economic recession.

The committee, which is to be chaired by Senator Abdullah  Yahaya (APC, Kebbi), is to particularly coordinate the contributions and views of senators during the two-day debate with a view to come up with a final position to be officially adopted by the Senate and consequent transmission to the Federal Government for implementation.

The committee will submit its report on Tuesday next week to the Senate at plenary where will resolution will be made subsequently.

Earlier, President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki, commended senators for their valid contributions on the state of the economy debate after the end of the discussion yesterday.

Other adhoc committee members are Senator Barau Jubril, Senator Ben Murray Bruce, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, Senator John Enoh, and Senator Hassan Mohammed.

Meanwhile, Senator Joshua Dariye from Plateau State has formally defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Saraki made the announcement towards the end of the plenary while reading out Dariye’s letter of notification to the Senate on his decision to quit the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
