Chairman of Dialogue Group Limited (DGL), Alhaji Mahdi Shehu, has secured the freedom of 50 inmates from Kaduna Prison in the spirit of the Ramadan, describing the gesture as part of his contribution to humanity and touching the lives of the less privileged one in the society, Shehu further stated.
Speaking with journalists in Kaduna yesterday, Alhaji Shehu said “I am setting them free in the spirit of the Ramadan Season which is a holy month, and as part of my contributions in touching lives of people in the society.”
He called on well spirited individuals who are blessed of God to also assist several others who are still languishing in prison with option fines, some of who have already learnt their lessons.
Although, Alhaji Shehu did not disclose the total amount he spent in securing the freedom of the inmates, he, however, gave N5, 000 naira to each of the freed inmates for transportation
Earlier in his speech, Shielk Dr Ahmed Mahmud Gumi, urged the freed inmates to desist from acts capable of getting them into trouble, even as he commended the magnanimity of Alhaji Shehu in securing the freedom of the inmates.
In the same vein, Arch Bishop of Kaduna Anglican Communion, Bishop Idowu Josiah Fearon who also offered Christian prayers for the freed inmates, further charged them to be of good behaviour.
Similarly, the Deputy Comptroller of Prison Kaduna, DCP A.U Diso charged the freed inmates to see their freedom as the act of God, and most importantly as an opportunity for them to live a better life.
Responding on-behalf of the freed inmates, Ahmadu Ibrahim Katai, Emeka Patrick and Barnabas Peters all thanked God for their freedom and Alhaji Shehu for allowing him to be used of God to secure their freedom.
